- While taking an afternoon walk in the Veterans Memorial Park, a couple saw what they believed to be an otter in canal along the bicycle path. Upon closer look, the object was not moving and the couple realized that it was in fact a body floating face down in the water before calling 911.
On October 31st, 2010, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office found the
body of a deceased man, possibly of Hispanic origin. The man was found floating
in the water of the Bypass Canal near Veteran’s Park at 2602 Highway 301 North,
Tampa, FL. When found, he was approximately 20-30 feet away from the shoreline and
approximately 1000 feet from the Highway 301 bridge. The man’s identity is
The man is approximately 18-27 years of age, is 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weighs
154 pounds. He has black hair approximately 1 ½ inches long on top and short on
the sides and he has a short red-orange colored mustache and sideburns. He has a
well-groomed appearance. His hair has recently been cut and he is recently shaven.
The man has silver caps or crowns on his front teeth. He has a C-shaped scar on
his left forearm approximately 1 ¼ inches x 1 inch. When the man was found by the
Sheriff’s Office he was wearing black Adidas brand athletic shorts with white
stripes on the sides and blue underwear.
A facial reconstruction that may resemble this individual and a reconstruction of the individual’s clothing were created by the Forensic Anthropology Laboratory at the University of South Florida.
